Verizon: AI accelerates cyber attacks, data breaches occur within hour

IDN Financials

JAKARTA - In its latest annual report, Verizon said hackers are increasingly using artificial intelligence to identify software security vulnerabilities, shortening victims’ response time from months to just a matter of hours.

As quoted by Reuters, Verizon found that software vulnerability exploitation has overtaken credential theft for the first time as the leading cause of data breaches.

Out of more than 31,000 incidents analysed, around 31% of data breaches originated from exploited security flaws. “AI is fundamentally changing the cybersecurity industry,” Verizon wrote in its report.

The report showed cyber threat actors are using generative AI across all stages of attacks, from target selection and initial access to malware development and other hacking tools.
