Suspect allegedly makes bomb threat while robbing New Orleans bank, NOPD says; FBI investigating

Fox 8 Live

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A man claiming to have an explosive device and threatening to detonate it made off with an undisclosed amount of cash Saturday (May 9) from a Mid-City bank, New Orleans police said.

The suspect, described only as a white man in his 40s or 50s, allegedly entered the bank and “demanded the bank teller to turn over money, or he would blow up the bank. The suspect also mentioned he had a bomb,” the NOPD said in an initial report.

Police said the teller complied and the man fled in an unknown direction.

The NOPD said the FBI has taken over the investigation. Bank robbery of an FDIC-insured institution is classified as a federal crime.
