AOL

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A rental car company employee was convicted April 24 on several related bank robbery and weapons charges after stealing a sedan from the rental company where he worked and using it to rob a credit union and two banks.

Tyrone K. Jefferson, 38, faced a federal jury in the Eastern District of Virginia and now will spend between 21 years and life in prison. His sentencing will occur on July 23. The jury convicted the Newport News man on charges of bank robbery, bank robbery with a dangerous weapon, brandishing a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Jefferson stole a sedan and several license plates from the rental car company where he worked and used the car to rob banks between February 4 and 6, 2025. In each robbery, Jefferson threw a bag toward a teller and demanded that it be filled with money. Jefferson showed the bank employees a gun during two of the robberies. After robbing the banks, Jefferson drove the stolen vehicle to a Portsmouth, Va., casino.
