USAA Sues Regions Bank Over Mobile Check Deposit Patent Infringement

USAA has initiated legal action against Regions Bank, alleging patent infringement related to mobile deposit technology. The lawsuit, filed on January 28, 2025, claims that Regions Bank’s mobile banking application infringes upon four USAA patents covering remote deposit technologies that enable users to deposit checks by capturing images with their smartphone cameras.
The patents in question were originally developed to serve U.S. military members stationed abroad, enabling them to conduct banking transactions remotely. USAA, which primarily serves military members and their families, has been a pioneer in mobile banking authentication, having developed its first remote deposit capture solutions in the early 2000s. The technology has since become fundamental to modern digital banking services.
