Monroe bank robbery caught within 3 minutes

A man who robbed a bank in Monroe was caught by police within three minutes of the 911 call, according to the Monroe Police Department.

Officers responded to the Bank of America branch at 901 East. Roosevelt Blvd. on Friday, the police department announced on Monday. Officers were told a man in a reflective vest and hard hat had robbed the bank, according to police. Witnesses told police the man threatened to shoot the teller if she did not fill up the bag with money.

Responding officers found the man running in a nearby parking lot, according to police. Officers took him into custody and transported him to the Union County Detention Center.

The man, identified by police as 65-year-old Richard Lee Adams, has been charged with committing a robbery using a dangerous weapon.
