The cost of real estate fraud in North Dakota

NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — As worries over scams increase, many Americans are taking precautions to defend themselves from those who seek to steal their money or personal information. Unfortunately, there are many ways that criminals can take advantage of people that they might not see coming — and very few in North Dakota are as unexpected and dangerous as real estate scams.
During a study on fraud in the United States, analysts with SOAX collected data from the Internet Crime Complaint Center regarding the number of people who have been affected by real estate fraud throughout the previous year, as well as how much they lost. After determining the average loss per person in each state and weighing them against one another, it was discovered that North Dakotans are some of those who have suffered the most from these scams — at least in terms of sheer magnitude.
