Identity theft on the rise in North Alabama as tax season nears its peak

As peak tax season arrives, scammers are looking to take advantage of you and your hard-earned money.
Some students at Alabama A&M University are experiencing this firsthand as several students report incidents of identity theft.
Students reported as they began filing taxes with their families, they found someone already filed with their information.
The university sent its students an email last week saying they are aware of several incidents where students' social security numbers were potentially compromised.
