Bank of America, Zelle Scam Steals Thousands Through Mobile App Payments

Illinois News Today

Chicago (WLS)-New scams target users of popular mobile payment apps. Some have been tricked into paying criminals thousands of dollars.

“It’s really painful,” said Noscene Brooks. She is paying $ 3,500. “You just save the hard earned money and rob you of it. You just don’t know what to do and you’re lost.”

Brooks received the text that it was her bank, Bank of America, that confirmed the purchase. When she answered “no,” she asked someone to say they were representatives of Bank of America and make it sound real. Brooks was then said to have withdrawn $ 3,500 from his “pending” Bank of America account. All she had to do was send money to herself through Zelle and “reverse” it.
