Invitation to Law Enforcement and Prosecutors: Training on Investigation Methods for Recovery of Pig Butchering Funds

Wire and Digital Fraud Recovery: Blockchain, Crypto Exchanges & Prosecutorial Collaboration

Session Overview

In response to the increasing complexity of financial crimes involving the wiring of money to fund cryptocurrency transactions, and the various methods used to recover funds for victims, the Financial and Retailers Protection Association (FRPA) is offering a specialized training session. This session is specifically designed to provide law enforcement agencies and prosecutorial teams with practical tools, learn the terminology, and step-by-step procedures for effectively pursuing the recovery of victim funds when possible, even if prosecutions are not feasible or sensible for many reasons.

Participants will gain a foundational understanding of the recovery process for wire transfers involving consumers who are scammed into investing in cryptocurrency, only to realize it is a fraud. Understanding the legal avenues available for recovering victim funds is critical. Topics include wire transfer reversals, crypto asset holds, seizure protocols, and processes that have proven successful in real cases. The prosecutors play a crucial role in recovering funds for victims. The session also encourages open communication between detectives and prosecutors to ensure alignment of investigative and prosecutorial practices and strategies can be accomplished.
