LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Scammers are sending fake checks to local businesses, tricking them into using those funds to pay people or businesses on their behalf.
Brielle Blanchard, CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Acadiana, said one scammer sent a Louisiana-based party planning company a fraudulent check to book a vendor for their event.
"He asked her to wire the money, $18,000 to another vendor," Blanchard said. "And before the check cleared, she did that, and then the check came back as fraudulent."
