A woman in her 20s, Ms. A, began a side job through a job-seeking site that promised profits by ordering and paying for goods on behalf of others. Initially, she received money as promised. However, as the scale of payments increased, the other party encouraged her to make "high-value orders." Ms. A sent 63 million Korean won after using her credit card and taking out loans. When refunds later stopped, she could not recover the losses because the transactions were made directly by her using her own card and loans.
Voice phishing scams are evolving beyond bank transfers to induce victims to use their own credit cards. Scammers trick victims into purchasing gift cards or goods with their cards or making direct payments at fake merchants before siphoning the money. On the 15th, the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) urged consumer caution as such card-payment-based financial frauds have surged.
