Car Rental Giant Avis Got Hacked. Was Your Data Exposed?

CNET Money

A recent data breach of Avis Car Rental has compromised the personal data of approximately 299,000 customers, the company said.

In a letter sent to customers, also submitted to multiple attorneys general nationwide, the car rental giant said that the breach occurred between Aug. 3 and Aug. 6 this year. After discovering the cyberattack on Aug. 5, Avis immediately took steps to end the unauthorized access, notified authorities and began an internal investigation of its systems with help from cybersecurity experts.

“Since the incident occurred, we have worked with cybersecurity experts to develop a plan to enhance security protections for the impacted business application,” the company wrote. “In addition, we have taken steps to deploy and implement additional safeguards onto our systems.”
