A suspect in three bank robberies pointed a weapon at Honolulu police officers who then fatally shot the man early this morning after an hours-long barricade standoff in Waikiki, according to Police Chief Arthur “Joe ” Logan.
Police said he had 41 convictions, including 27 felony convictions.
Officers went to 2509 Ala Wai Boulevard after 7 p.m. Thursday as part of a robbery investigation, prompting the man to barricade himself inside a unit.
Police began evacuating nearby residents at 8 p.m. and sent a crisis negotiation team to try to speak with the man, Logan said at a news conference today at police headquarters.
