A former Kane County resident is facing fraud and false impersonation charges after prosecutors say he pretended to be a billionaire, a New York attorney and multiple federal judges in a scheme that took more than $300,000 from elderly victims.
Kurt Jurgens Bauer, 56, has been charged with three counts of wire fraud and two counts of false personation of an employee of the United States, according to an indictment from the Offices of the United States Attorneys.
He faces up to 20 years in federal prison for each count of wire fraud and up to three years for each count of false impersonation of an employee of the United States if convicted of the charges.
