IRS Warns of Stimulus Check Scam

The IRS is warning the public of a new scam in which people get text messages claiming they can get a $1,200 stimulus check, reported CNBC. Generally the text reads: “You have received a direct deposit of $1,200 from COVID-19 TREAS FUND. Further action is required to accept this payment into your account. Continue here to accept this payment …” The text then instructs the recipients to go to a link designed to imitate an official IRS site and asks them for their personal and financial information.
