Yesterday, someone insisted that because they use an identity graph that matches users with offline credit card purchases, all their users are guaranteed to be humans. Yes, but. 

You’d think that because you could match up offline purchases with the online identifiers of users, those users would be real humans. After all, bots don’t buy stuff in offline stores, right? That’s right for the most part. But do you know how bots can still trick you after you did this validation? Let’s start with a simple example first. Assume you made the effort to verify that a mobile device was real, and it was used by a human. The device even had a phone number and SIM card associated with it, as verified by a telecom company. What if that user downloaded a rogue app or unknowingly installed malware on their own device? The device is real, but the ad impressions are still fraudulent - generated by a rogue app or malware loading ads in the background when the app or device is not in use.
