ORLEANS COUNTY, N.Y. (WHEC) — An Orleans County woman urged others to learn from her embarrassing experience at being ripped off in a “mystery shopper” scam.
“I’m super embarrassed now, after the fact,” Kathi Spilberg of Holley said. “I’m scared about this hitting the news but people need to know.”
As a former accountant who considered herself mindful of fraud and scams, Spilberg found it painful to realize she’d been conned out of $1,900.
Last week, she explained, she received what looked like a bank check for $2,250 and a note with letterhead identifying it as coming from the marketing research company Forrester.
